Entry for:150 Years of Discovery: Emerging Research
1. Please provide a brief summary of your video and research.
Gastro-intestinal parasites are a difficult to control health issue for grazing animals. Currently, there is only one class of treatment available, whose effectivity is continually decreasing due to the development of resistance. A second consideration is the amount of drugs the host animals are exposed to. In time, we’d like to achieve better parasite control as well as a reduction in drug exposure of farm animals, as this will create a healthier future for both the animal and the human consumer. My project aims to develop a novel strategy to control parasite loads on pastures.
