Can we incentivise environmentalism?
The world of finance is often painted as a capitalist Icarus, flying relentlessly closer to the sun of environmental destruction in the name of profits. Yet profits drive action. Conservation finance is an attempt to monetise the preservation of nature; a growing opportunity which ExSeed aims to explore.
Our idea is a platform for microfinance venture funding at a seed level. There is undeniably a growing collective environmental conscience among developed populations: one without an outlet that is both easily accessible and economically viable. ExSeed operates on a simple business model. Environmental entrepreneurs list their business plans on our platform, ideas principled on social and environmental benefits. One might be a scheme to introduce biofuel energy into agricultural communities, for example. These ideas require capital in the thousands, not millions, and perhaps require human capital (volunteers). Those listing ideas exchange equity in the idea for capital allocations. Ideas, once funded, grow to become risk-justified and self-sustainable businesses (if successful). Once the platform grows, equity securities could become tradeable to encourage investment.
It’s seed-level venture capital crossed with crowdfunding crossed with ecotourism. We link ideas with capital, in a socially and environmentally responsible context. Incentivising nature requires organic, natural growth, starting on a microfinance level. We aim to provide that growth.
